It's a jungle out there!
A reasonably large reclamation and re-landscaping job in Witley, involving quite a bit of chainsaw and digger work to level off and clear the site having sprayed it off with Glysophate based herbicide. Nothing we can't handle!
After
The job involved some 100m2 of natural sandstone paving laid on a raised patio of crushed concrete and scalpings. The lawn area has been completely reclaimed and drained with perforated land drainage pipe. The garden retains an established look but at the same time plenty of opportunity for subsequent planting.
Before
Before building the wall we had to clear the site, dig out concrete footings and backfill. The key thing was to get the backfill well compacted to avoid subsequent subsidence, which also meant clearing out any organic matter.
After
A York stone wall makes a good decorative feature - definitely better than brick in this case. The brief was to make a large area suitable for entertaining, this should do it! At this stage the grass seed has only been down a couple of weeks but the transformation is already apparent.
Before
This was taken before a lawn reclamation and planting job on a neglected garden in Guildford. The soil was heavy chalk/flint which meant having to import topsoil before reseeding.
After
The long thin garden was nicely broken up with a simple beech hedge half way down. The patio area was made more interesting by planting Lime trees surrounded by box in the lawn. The reseeded lawn took really well. For a relatively low budget this garden was completely transformed by bold planting.
Before
A neglected back garden in Godalming which the customer had drawn up a great design for. The project included a pond/water feature, BBQ, walling, paving and lawn.
After
The job took us about 4 weeks to complete and has obviously completely transformed the area, providing all year interest and a practical and usable garden.
Sandstone patio.
A relatively large patio made more interesting with a stone cirlce set in it. The brick walling and planters are a good way of demarking the separate areas and adding interest.
Hazel Hurdles
Hazel hurdles provide a fantastic screen (here hiding a compost area) and provide a good backdrop for planting.
Pergola
A great looking pergola provides a nice spot for a bit of socialising. Mains 240v lighting makes it a great place to be at night. Climbers (Wisteria, Jasmine) will provide shade and lovely scent on a hot summer's day.
Brick wall, paving and lawn
A curved low brick retaining wall planted with box edging along the top. We also set some small LED lights in the brickwork which look great.
A family garden, Godalming.
Another long, thin garden with entertaining and children the key issues of the design brief. The garden has interest, is low maintenance and covers all requirements.
Paving and walling
A reclaimed/rebuilt wall using existing stone which had to be stretched out a little! The bench was made from a piece of timber the customer had acquired and was keen to include and the paving is a terracotta type stone. The effect is a very pleasant and intimate sitting out area, great for entertaining and just enjoying the great outdoors.
Retaining wall and paved area
A project involving building a retaining wall, Indian Sandstone paved area, returf lawn with path through to steps. Beech hedge separating patio from lawn.
Deck and pergola
A customer designed deck and pergola construction to add interest and practicality to a hitherto unused corner of a family garden in Godalming. It works really well because it is bold and angular and lends itself well to interesting planting ideas which the customer is happy to do herself.
Sandstone patio
a nicely curved sandstone patio which looks good and is highly practical, balancing usable space without taking up too much lawn area. The planting areas around the house add interest and soften the margin between patio and house.
Maximising space
This project replaced a banked lawn and utility paved area and is a vast improvement! The brief was for a practical eating out space with as much lawn as possible. The customer was happy we achieved both within a relatively small area.
Rose arch
Rose arch creating a vertical dimension and adding interest to a small garden in Godalming. Roses and scented climbers will make it a really impressive and nice smelling feature in the summer months!
Stone Circle
A stone circle is a great way of creating a good looking sitting out area without taking up too much garden. Railway sleepers are a very cost effective way of retaining soil. The trellis nicely separates car parking from garden. The brief here was low maintenance, a few borders for planting and a small sit out area. Job done!
